This service commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War One. It will be televised live on BBC One.About the service
The Abbey’s bells will peal for one hour from 12.30pm on Sunday 11th November joining hundreds of churches and cathedrals across the land who will ring their bells to mark the centenary of the Armistice. This recreates the moment when church bells were rung spontaneously on 11th November 1918 when the end of the war was announced.More information
The biggest challenge we face is actually time – getting all our work done alongside the daily routine of the Abbey as a working church, visitor attraction and home to 1,000 years of history.
