A Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the life and work of Sir Peter Hall CBE will take place in Westminster Abbey at 12 Noon on Tuesday 11th September 2018.

Sir Peter Hall, who has been described as ‘the undoubted architect of the entire edifice of modern theatre’, died aged 86 on 11th September 2017. He directed the English language premiere of Waiting for Godot, founded the Royal Shakespeare Company, became the first Director of the National Theatre on the South Bank, was the driving force behind the Rose Theatre Kingston and directed dozens of productions in the West End and on Broadway. In a career spanning nearly 60 years Sir Peter worked with most of Britain’s leading actors and directed or produced the country’s finest playwrights. He was an internationally renowned opera director working at many of the world’s leading houses including Bayreuth, the Royal Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera, and Glyndebourne where he was also the Artistic Director.

In Westminster Abbey, on 11th September, Sir Peter's life will be celebrated with specially chosen music, lessons, readings and tributes given by those who knew Sir Peter well.
