Marketing Manager – Ref: WA157

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on the creative design, planning, delivery and reporting of Westminster Abbey’s marketing activity and campaigns. You will be reporting into the Head of Events and Marketing, whilst working closely with the Enterprise Events Manager, Membership Officer and Protocol Manager also in the team.

The Abbey’s marketing activity has developed significantly in recent years and forms an essential part of the organisation in terms of mission and outreach and engagement with wider and more diverse audiences. We now seek an innovative and enthusiastic individual to continue this progress. The Abbey is first and foremost a place of worship, but it is also recognised as an iconic visitor attraction. The Marketing Manager role will require working across these varied areas and leading on the strategic direction for both commercial and non-commercial marketing across the organisation.

Whilst wishing to achieve maximum exposure of the Abbey to wide and varied audiences, it must be emphasised very strongly at the outset that Westminster Abbey is very different to marketing compared with a major high street shop or company. The post-holder will have to engage quickly with the philosophy of the Dean and Chapter and appreciate and respect the sensitivities of what being an Abbey means. In this respect we are seeking someone with a strong empathy for us, and our mission. This will be a focus for discussion as part of the interview process; the successful candidate will need to demonstrate strongly that they fully understand what marketing an Abbey really means.

The Marketing Manager’s role is wide and varied. Part of the challenge is getting the balance right; in maintaining the Abbey’s day to day marketing activity, whilst also developing new and exciting marketing opportunities for Westminster Abbey. It will be an exciting time for the new postholder to join us.

This is a frontline, customer focused role that will require you to provide excellent customer service within a busy, often demanding setting.
