Appointment of the Organist and Master of the Choristers - Ref: WA141

Westminster Abbey is the place of Coronation, a site of gathering for nations and Commonwealth, a house of memory and memorial and an iconic destination for pilgrims and visitors. Our first priority, daily worship, sustained for over a millennium, shapes our distinctive witness to faith at the heart of the nation, and music plays a prominent and vital role in all aspects of our worshipping life, including great State Occasions.

Under the leadership of James O’Donnell over the last twenty-two years, we have built a consistent and unparalleled reputation both nationally and internationally for musical excellence. The Abbey has long been a beacon of the English choral tradition, and we now seek to appoint an Organist and Master of the Choristers to sustain that priceless legacy and develop it to meet the needs of the coming decades.

Timetable

Panel interviews are scheduled for 1 July 2022, with informal discussions on 27 June and assessment of chorister training and choral direction on 30 June. This appointment will commence on 1 January 2023.

Learning Officer (Maternity Cover) – Ref: WA137

Westminster Abbey is seeking a Learning Officer responsible for delivering workshops, guided tours and virtual classroom sessions to UK school groups, and informal learning sessions for families.

Full Time (40 hours per week)

Salary: £40,399.20 per annum

The post holder will be enthusiastic and interested in the fantastic learning opportunities that Westminster Abbey has to offer. With their excellent communication skills they will be able to convey this enthusiasm to young people, adapting programmes to accommodate children from different ability groups, and ensuring that they leave the Abbey inspired to learn more. The successful candidate will have the experience necessary to promote the history of our unique building in the context of a living Church.
In return, you will join a professional and supportive team with whom you will work collaboratively, alongside the wider team of colleagues from other Abbey departments and volunteers.

Facilities Attendant - Ref: WA125

Westminster Abbey is seeking to recruit a Facilities Attendant to keep the Abbey and precincts clean, and to set up and clear seating for services and special events within the Abbey and precincts.

Full Time (40 hours) 

Salary: £23,884 per annum

Ref: WA125

The role also involves porter-type work within the Abbey precincts, and working as part of the Visitor Experience team, to promote outstanding, engaging visitor services as part of our welcome to all worshippers and visitors to the Abbey.

The successful post holder must have knowledge of cleaning techniques and products whilst also being able to work effectively as part of a team and on their own.
