Security Beadle - Ref: WA252

Westminster Abbey is seeking to increase the team of Security Beadles to work towards ensuring the safety and security of the Abbey site for visitors, worshippers and residents.

Full time – Permanent

(40 hours per week, including nights)

Salary: £32,524.97 per annum

Successful candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be able to work alone, with a shift partner and with Abbey colleagues. Candidates should have experience of being vigilant and providing a security service to the general public, coupled with an ability to act decisively and on their own initiative in sometimes difficult situations. You will cover a 24/7 shift rota, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays.

Deputy Clerk of the Works - Ref: WA242

Westminster Abbey is a living church, encapsulating over 1,000 years of British history, and an architectural treasure. The Abbey occupies a central place in the celebration of great events for the nation and attracts nearly two million worshippers and visitors each year. It is a place of outstanding national and international importance that demands the highest levels of maintenance, restoration, and new works, to preserve and enhance the fabric of the Abbey

Permanent, Full-time (40 hours per week)

Salary £60,000 - £70,000 per annum

This position has the responsibility to support the Clerk of the Works (CotW) for the oversight of all aspects of the Works Department to deliver the highest quality of maintenance of the fabric, plant and overall environment of the Abbey and its precincts; for the management oversight of significant construction and maintenance projects as delegated by the CotW; and for management processes and systems to deliver an effective service to the Abbey as agreed with the CotW.  Change management projects will be a significant aspect of this role. There may be occasions when this position will deputise in the absence of the CotW, reporting when appropriate to the Receiver General.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and qualified professional, renowned for their expertise in the maintenance and conservation of highly complex listed buildings. You will have extensive knowledge of the key trades and building practices, coupled with a profound grasp of today’s health and safety, systems, and standards. You will be an able and practical programme manager with the people-management and communication skills to ensure effective relationships are maintained across the Abbey and beyond.

Chaperone, St. Margaret’s Church – Ref: WA234

St Margaret’s Church is part of the Westminster Abbey Music Department and has a requirement for two Chaperones to support a new girls’ choir, which will be operational from September 2023.

Zero Hours - Permanent

Hourly rate: £12.08

Hours of work will be agreed with the Director of Music, St Margaret’s. The anticipated working hours for this post are as specified below during term time, worked principally on the days specified. Chaperones will be on duty during term time as follows:

 

Sundays                                          14:45 – 19:15            2 chaperones

Mondays                                        15:45 – 17:45            1 chaperone

Tuesdays & Wednesdays              15:45 – 18:45            2 chaperones

 

This schedule will be fully operational from September 2024. In the choir’s first year (Sept 2023 - July 2024), Sunday hours will be 2.5 hours shorter some weeks.  Exact term dates will be given in advance.

 

The ideal candidate will have a relevant qualification or equivalent previous experience in a similar role. You will also be willing to complete first aid training upon commencement if not currently qualified. If you have experience of working with groups of young people and an ability to relate well to girls between the ages of 11 and 17 and can remain calm during unexpected situations, this exciting role may be right for you.
