Advent and Christmas

Advent and Christmas is a special time at Westminster Abbey.

We are delighted to invite everyone to begin their Christmas with us and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. During the festive season there will be services that feature traditional carols and festive readings. You can also enjoy family events, music concerts and a selection of seasonal options from our special restaurant menu.

Services

You may need to book tickets for some of the services listed below. Details on how to book tickets will be announced in early autumn. 

Advent Liturgy

Sunday 3rd December, 4.00pm

A dramatic, candle-lit service of hymns, readings, and anthems sung by the Abbey Choir.

Service of Lessons and Carols

Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th December, 4.00pm 

A traditional service including the singing of Christmas carols.

Sung Eucharist at St Margaret’s Church

Sunday 24th December, 6.00pm

First Eucharist of Christmas night

Sunday 24th December, 11.00pm 

A late-night service celebrating the birth of Christ, the Light of the World, in the midst of darkness.

Christmas Day Sung Eucharist

Monday 25th December, 10.30am

The main service to celebrate Christmas morning, and the appearing of Jesus as Emmanuel – ‘God with us’.

Christmas Day Evensong

Monday 25th December, 3.00pm

Evensong will consist of choral music (psalms, canticles, and anthems), scripture readings, and prayers.

Food and drink

You can celebrate Christmas in the Cellarium Café and Terrace with lunch or afternoon tea between 12.00 pm – 3.30 pm, from 27th November to 22nd December.
