Westminster Abbey and Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Abbey is not currently open for worship or general visiting but you are welcome to visit for individual prayer at the following times:

Monday - Saturday: 10:00am - 3:00pm
Sunday: 12:30pm - 2:00pm

Our clergy are also producing regular podcasts to support worship from home.

Advent and Christmas

Earlier this year the coronavirus pandemic closed the Abbey for the first time since the Second World War.

Our doors re-opened in July, but the regulations introduced on 5th November have required us to close again for all but individual prayer until at least 2 December. The safety of our visitors and worshippers is paramount, and there is every likelihood that the guidelines for the safe use of places of worship will seriously limit the numbers of worshippers at our services once we are allowed to reopen for that purpose.

We knew some time ago that we would not be able to hold services at which the congregation could sing carols. Now it is clear to us that we shall not be able to welcome the thousands who regularly fill the Abbey for one of the most important festivals in the Christian calendar. The Dean and Chapter of Westminster will keep this position under review and will announce its plans for Christmas services in due course.

Be assured that we pray daily for Her Majesty The Queen, her government, the nation and Commonwealth, and for those who in these difficult days face illness, need and loss.

It’s very hard not to be enthusiastic working at the Abbey. If this place doesn’t make you smile I don’t know what will.
