Sir John Zochonis

Sir John Basil Zochonis, industrialist, was a generous donor to the Westminster Abbey restoration appeal and he has a small stained glass window, by Alfred Fisher, in the Lady Chapel which was the last area of the Abbey to be cleaned in 1995.

The window shows his coat of arms and motto in Greek (United with tolerance), bees and a Tudor rose. He was born in Cheshire in 1929 and educated at Rugby school and Oxford university. Much of his business was in Sierra Leone and he became a director of the firm P.Z. Cussons. Also a patron of the arts, especially in the north of England and in Manchester, he was knighted in 1997 and died on 30th November 2013.
