Sir Peter Walters

Sir Peter Walters has his coat of arms in the west window of the Lady Chapel in Westminster Abbey (lower row). This was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II in 1995 at the completion of the restoration of the chapel.

The window, designed by John Lawson, contains coats of arms and initials of donors, fund raisers and others who were concerned in this work and in the Appeal for the restoration of the exterior stonework which had begun in 1973. Sir Peter was a Trustee of the Appeal (Westminster Abbey Trust). He was the son of Stephen and Edna (Redgate) and was born in Birmingham in 1931. He attended King Edward's school and university there. A noted businessman he was chairman of many concerns including B.P., Midland Bank and SmithKline Beecham. and was knighted in 1984.
