Gordon and Jean Southam

Gordon Thomas Southam and his wife (Gertrude) Jean (MacMillan), Canadian philanthropists,  were generous donors to the Westminster Abbey restoration appeal which culminated in the restoration of Henry VII's Lady Chapel in 1995. A small stained glass window, by Alfred Fisher of Chapel Studios, can be seen in one of the side chapels there. This shows their respective coats of arms and mottos, with a maple leaf and thistle and a fir tree. The inscriptions read:

GORDON T. SOUTHAM
JEAN M. SOUTHAM

He was born in 1910 in Ottawa, Canada, son of Harry and his wife Lilias. His was a famous newspaper family and in 1941 he married Jean Macmillan whose father was a timber baron. Gordon died in 1998 and his wife in 2007.
