L.J. & Mary Skaggs

Levi Justin Skaggs and his wife Mary Cornelia (Dee) were generous benefactors to the Westminster Abbey restoration appeal and in Henry VII's chapel are two small stained glass windows, made by Alfred Fisher and Peter Archer, unveiled in 1995 when cleaning and restoration of that chapel was completed. One window includes the word PEACE with the symbol of a dove carrying an olive branch, poppies and a lily with the inscription:

L.J. & Mary Skaggs

The other window has the word RECONCILIATION, again with their names, a Tudor rose, Star of David and doves.

L.J. Skaggs was born in 1899 and the family owned a chain of stores in the U.S.A. He died in 1970 and his wife carried on his philanthropic foundation until her death in 2009 aged 109. She was granted an honorary CBE by Queen Elizabeth II. A memorial service was held for her in the Abbey on 8th July 2010.
