Letitia, Countess of Donegal

Letitia, Countess of Donegal was buried in a vault at the east end of the Lady Chapel in Westminster Abbey on 15th May 1691. She has no monument. The vault was formerly where Oliver Cromwell's family had been buried before their exhumation. Her name is recorded on a 19th century stone over the vault (covered by a carpet). She was the only surviving daughter of Sir William Hicks, first Baronet of Beverstone Castle in Gloucestershire and his wife Margaret, daughter of William, 4th Lord Paget and his wife Lettice (Knollys). Margaret was buried on the south side of Henry VII's tomb in the Lady Chapel on 10th September 1652. She married Sir William on 8th September 1625 at Drayton in Middlesex. Letitia was baptised in the Abbey on 13th July 1626 and married firstly, at St Bartholomew the Less church in London, Arthur Chichester, 1st Earl of Donegal (as his third wife). William, Lord Chichester was the only surviving son and heir, probably by Letitia, who died in 1660. Her second husband was Sir William Franklin.
