Dr John Chamber(s)

Dr John Chamber, (Chambre or Chambers) was buried in St Margaret's church Westminster on 2nd July 1549 but nothing marks his grave. He was rector of Tichmarsh in Northamptonshire, as well as several other parishes, and a Fellow and later Warden of Merton College Oxford. From 1494 he was Canon at Lincoln and also at Windsor from 1510. As physician to Henry VII and Henry VIII he was one of the original members of the College of Physicians (with Thomas Linacre and others). He was also Archdeacon of Meath and Canon of Wells and was the last Dean of St Stephen's chapel in the Palace of Westminster before its suppression (the chapel was later used by the House of Commons until the 1834 fire there). He appears with Henry VIII in a Holbein portrait held at the Worshipful Company of Barbers in London.
