Sidney Andrews & family

In the west cloister of Westminster Abbey is the grave of Sidney Robert Andrews, his son and his wife.

He was born at Newton Ferrers, Plymouth. He was Clerk of Works at the Abbey, the official who acts as Sexton at a burial and is responsible for the day to day maintenance of the Abbey and its residences and offices. During his period of office the poet John Masefield and RAF commander Lord Dowding were interred.

The inscription reads:

Sidney Robert Andrews 1918-1981 Clerk of Works Master Mason 1967-1981 Also Anthony Andrews 1955-1979 Kathleen Mary Andrews 1918-1999

Anthony was killed in a car crash and was married to Catherine, daughter of Trevor Beeson, Canon of Westminster. Sidney's other children are Marcia and Judy.
