Shadrach Vincent

Shadrach Vincent, Member of Parliament for Fowey in Cornwall 1689-1695, was buried in St Margaret's Church Westminster on 3rd January 1700 in the 'Great Vault'. This vault runs under the central aisle of the church. But he has no memorial or marker.

He was born on 14th May 1643 a son of Henry and his second wife Susannah (Launce). His first wife was Catherine Kelliowe and his second widow Mary Harris (nee Rashleigh) but there seem to have been no children. Shadrach was a captain in the Dutch army and major of horse. In Cornwall he was Riding Surveyor of Customs. In his will he left money for a schoolmaster to educate the children of Fowey. His nephews were Walter and Henry and the Reverend Shadrack Vincent, sons of Walter Vincent. This nephew was the rector of Bratton, Clovelly in Devon.
