Eleanor Worgan

Eleanor Worgan was buried in the north choir aisle of Westminster Abbey, just in front of the monument to Hugh Chamberlen, on 20th January 1777 but nothing now marks her grave. She has no memorial.

It is not clear why she was buried in the Abbey but perhaps she lived nearby. She was the second wife of composer Dr John Worgan (1724-1790) who was organist at several London churches and at Vauxhall pleasure gardens. Charles Wesley was one of his pupils. They had at least one child, Thomas Danvers Worgan. He had divorced his first wife Sarah Maclean (by whom he had six children) and he married his third, Martha Cooke, in 1779. Daughter Charlotte married Dr William Parsons. John is buried at St Andrew Undershaft church in London.
