Edward and George Morris

Edward Morris, lawyer and Member of Parliament, and his brother George Paulet Morris, physician, are buried in St Margaret's church Westminster. Unfortunately their memorial tablet is now invisible behind the organ. The inscription reads:

In a vault underneath this church are deposited the remains of Edward Morris, Esq. one of the Masters of the High Court of Chancery formerly Fellow of Peterhouse, Cambridge and for many years member of Parliament for the borough of Newport, Cornwall who died April 12th 1815, aged 47 years. Also of George Paulet Morris M.D., F.R.S. Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and for many years physician to Westminster Hospital who died September 17th 1837 aged 77 years

They were sons of Michael Morris F.R.S., also physician to Westminster Hospital and physician to the Army, and his wife Barbara (Ballard). Edward was born on 17th July 1768 and attended Westminster School, as did George. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn and then the Inner Temple and was M.P. from 1803-1812. In 1805 he married the Hon. Mary Erskine and they had four daughters. He was also an author. George had a practice in Great George Street and married Emily Wood in 1794. He served at the Hospital from 1788-1810.
