Sir Eric Drake

Sir (Arthur) Eric Drake C.B.E. was a trustee of the Westminster Abbey Trust which raised millions for the restoration of the Abbey between 1973 and 1995. The culmination of the work was the cleaning and restoration of Henry VII's Lady Chapel and the west window there includes coats of arms of those concerned with the appeal and fund raising.

The arms of Sir Eric can be seen in the bottom row of the stained glass. He was born in Rochester, Kent in 1910 and studied law at Cambridge university. Among the many posts he held were chairman and chief executive of British Petroleum Co and Director of P&O. In 1970 he was knighted and he died on 31st October 1996. His first wife was Rosemary Moore and his second Margaret Wilson.
