William Tucker

William Tucker, priest and musician, was buried in the cloisters of Westminster Abbey (actual location not known) on 1st March 1679. His wife was Elizabeth and four of their children were baptised and three buried in the Abbey: Mary, an infant, buried 1662, another Mary buried in 1670 as a young child, Elizabeth buried 1664 and Henry. William may have been a son of Edmund Tucker, organist at Salisbury cathedral. On 16th February 1661 (New Style dating) he was installed a Minor Canon and Lay Vicar of Westminster Abbey and remained in office until his death. He was also a priest at the Chapel Royal and was known as an "excellent musician and composer of several anthems" and was present at Charles II's coronation.
