Elizabeth Woodfall

Elizabeth Woodfall was buried in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey on 19th February 1862, aged 93 years. She was the youngest child of the celebrated printer of "Junius" Henry Sampson Woodfall (1739-1805) and his wife Elizabeth. She was born on 8th October 1768 and lived at 14 Dean's Yard, adjoining the Abbey. As a resident of the precincts she could be interred in the cloisters. Her will was proved by her nephew Henry Dick Woodfall (died 1869 in Nice), last surviving son of her only brother George (died 1844). George's son George Douglas Woodfall was buried in the west cloister on May 16th 1822 aged 23. Henry Dick, George Douglas, Charles, James and John Ward Woodfall, sons of George, all attended Westminster School.

She had a memorial tablet on the wall near her grave but unfortunately this had to be taken down in the 1920s as it was decayed. The inscription on this read:

In memory of Elizabeth Woodfall younger daughter of the late Henry Sampson Woodfall who died 12th February 1862 aged 93 years. She resided for many years in Deans Yard and is buried near this stone. The Hoary Head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. Proverbs Ch. xvi, ver.31
