Sir Anthony Tuke

In the west window of Henry VII's chapel in Westminster Abbey is the coat of arms of Sir Anthony Tuke, banker and businessman, and a trustee of the Westminster Abbey restoration appeal. The Trust raised millions of pounds for the restoration of the stonework of the Abbey from 1973-1995 and the last phase was the completion of the cleaning and restoration of Henry VII's chapel.

The panel is on the lower row of the large window, second in from the right. He was born in Hertfordshire on 22nd August 1920, a son of Anthony Tuke, also a banker, and his wife Edna. Educated at Winchester and Cambridge he joined the Scots Guards and later worked for Barclays Bank in South Africa and England becoming Chairman of Barclays Bank International. He married Emilia Antic and had a son and daughter. He was on the boards of many companies and was Chairman of Rio Tinto Zinc and the Savoy Group among others. In 1979 he was knighted and died on 6th March 2001.
