Gullan Family

Several members of the Gullan family of Westminster are buried in St Margaret's church Westminster (although not all of those named on the memorial). Unfortunately the wall memorial to them is now hidden behind the organ. The inscription reads:

In memory of Mr Thomas Gullan formerly of King Street in this parish who died 28th January 1800 aged 62 years. Also of Ann Gullan wife of the said Thomas Gullan who died 17th October 1798 aged 56 years. Also of Ann Phillips wife of Mr Phillips and daughter of Mr Thomas Gullan and Ann his wife who died 24th October 1792 aged 25 years. Also of Ester Isabella Gullan, another daughter of the above named who died 20th September 1802 aged 21 years. Also of Mr Richard Gullan, eldest son of Mr Thomas Gullan who died 2nd May 1841 aged 71 years. Also of Maria Sarah Gullan, wife of Mr Thomas Gullan junior, now of Great Dean's Yard Westminster who died 14th November 1825 aged 43 years. Also of the last named Mr Thomas Gullan of Deans Yard Westminster who died 16th December 1857 aged 83 years

Henry Poole, who compiled a list of inscriptions in this church, says Thomas was a much respected parishioner who ran a livery stable in Boars Head Yard off King Street in which he was succeeded by his son. Thomas junior lived in a house on the Terrace in Dean's Yard (the south side), which was demolished for the building of the first Church House complex.
