Benjamin Ibbot

The Reverend Benjamin Ibbot was buried in the east aisle of the south transept of Westminster Abbey on 13th April 1725 but he has no monument and his gravestone never had an inscription.

He was the son of Reverend Thomas Ibbot, vicar of Swaffham and rector of Beachamwell in Norfolk. Benjamin was born at Beachamwell in 1680 and educated at Cambridge university. As well as chaplain to Archbishop Tenison he also served as a chaplain in ordinary to George I. In 1708 he became treasurer at Wells cathedral and was appointed a prebendary of Westminster the following year. Later he was also rector of St Paul's church in Shadwell, London. On 29th July 1714 at St Martin Outwich church he married Susanna Powell but they had no children. She died aged 78 in 1764 and was buried at Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
