Mary Manningham

Mary Manningham was buried in the north transept of Westminster Abbey, in front of William Pitt's monument, on 5th July 1751 aged 62. She was the daughter of Thomas Yates, Member of Parliament for Chichester, and widow of the Reverend Dr Thomas Manningham. Thomas was a prebendary of Westminster and rector of Slinfold (where he is buried) and Selsey in Sussex and was the eldest son of Thomas Manningham, Bishop of Chichester. They were married at Warnham in Sussex on 13th July 1713. Their daughter Elizabeth had been buried on 12th November 1733 and her mother was buried with her. The stone is not now readable but the inscription was:

Here lyes the body of Elizabeth daughter to Dr Thomas Manningham, prebendary of this church who died November 15th 1733 aged 19.

Her son, Reverend Thomas Manningham, proved her will. Another son was the Reverend Richard Manningham (died 1745) and both sons attended Westminster School.
