Thomas Aston Coffin

Thomas Aston Coffin, Commissary General to His Majesty's troops serving in Great Britain, was buried in St Margaret's church Westminster. A memorial tablet on the south wall reads: 

Within this church are deposited the remains of THOMAS ASTON COFFIN Esqr. late Commissary General of England who died at his house in Abingdon Street Westminster the 31st day of May 1810 in the 55th year of his age

The coat of arms on the tablet shows "azure three bezants, two and one, between five crosses crosslet, or".

He was born in 1754 in Boston, Massachusetts, son of William Coffin and his wife Mary. Educated at Harvard university he later moved to Quebec in Canada and was private secretary to the Commander in Chief of British Forces in North America. He held a lot of property in Quebec. He had three illegitimate daughters by two women.
