Sarah Mildmay

Sarah Mildmay, wife of Humphrey Mildmay of Queen Camel in Somerset, was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey, at the entry to St Benedict's chapel on 17th January 1700 but nothing marks her grave. She was a daughter of Edmund Parker and was born at Plympton St Mary in Devon (Edmund was ancestor of the Earls of Morley by Amy daughter of Sir Edward Seymour). She died aged about 70 and is wrongly called Dorothy in the burial registers. However an affidavit of her burial in woollen (which was the law at the time) exists in the Abbey archives (illustrated here) and shows she was Sarah, of the parish of Christ Church in the City of London. All her family plate and books were bequeathed to her nephew Thomas Parker and his daughters.
