Lady Margaret Crichton

Lady Margaret Crichton was buried in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey on 31st December 1720 but she has no marker. She was a daughter of Charles, Lord Crichton and his wife the Hon. Sarah Dalrymple (daughter of James, 1st Viscount of Stair). She was the sister of William, 3rd Earl of Dumfries and of Penelope, Countess of Dumfries who successively succeeded to the title, their father having died in the lifetime of their grandfather, William, 2nd Earl. She was 33 and unmarried and the newspapers of the day say she died at the Earl of Loudoun's house in Privy Gardens, Westminster and was said to have "broke her heart by the loss of her fortune in South Sea stock".
