Henry Spoore

Henry Spoore (or Spurr), Clerk of the Works at Westminster Abbey from 1696-1703, was buried in the south cloister but his stone was only marked with "H.S. 1703" and cannot now be seen. He would have acted as Sexton and supervised the general work needed to be done on the Abbey and its official houses. His wife Sarah was buried on 12th May 1726 and daughter Dorothy (who married Ralph Sims, who succeeded Henry in the post) was buried on 14th January 1730 (several of her children were also buried in the cloister). Another daughter Sara was baptised at St Margaret's church in 1676.
