Elizabeth Abrahall

On the wall of the east cloister of Westminster Abbey is a small marble cartouche to Elizabeth Abrahall. The inscription reads:

Near this place lies the body of Elizabeth the wife of Gilbert Abrahall Esq. Page of the Back Staires to her Majesty Queen Ann. She was Mrs [mistress] Starcher to her Majesty and departed this life the 9th of March 1710/11 in the 73rd year of her age

The split date indicates Old and New Style dating so it is 1711 in modern dating.

Gilbert, as well as being a trusted royal servant of Queen Anne, was also in the "Private Musick" at court. Elizabeth was the widow of Charles Powell (they had a son George) and may have been Gilbert's second wife (the first possibly Rebecca Backwell). He may have died in late 1718 or early 1719.
