Dr Thomas Reynolds

The Revd. Dr Thomas Reynolds was buried in St Margaret's church Westminster on 26th November 1559 but he has no monument or marker.

He was the son of Richard Reynolds of Pinhoe in Devon and was educated at Merton College Oxford, where he was later Warden and Vice Chancellor. He held several posts including Canon of Exeter, Canon of Westminster 1544-56, Dean of Bristol and Dean of Exeter and he was a chaplain to the Catholic Queen Mary. The Queen nominated him to be bishop of Hereford but his consecration was prevented when Elizabeth I succeeded to the throne and she imprisoned him in the Marshalsea, where he died unmarried. His nephews were John and William.
