Secretary General of the Anglican Communion reads for Anglican Communion Sunday

The Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Dr Josiah Idowu-Fearon is the special guest for today’s edition of Abbeycast, the Abbey’s worship podcast, which this weekend celebrates Anglican Communion Sunday.

The Abbey was due to welcome guests from elsewhere in the Communion on Anglican Communion Sunday, which is held close to the feast day of St Augustine of Canterbury, who was sent by Pope St Gregory the Great to evangelise Britain in AD 595.

The Abbey is delighted to mark Anglican Communion Sunday this year with Archbishop Idowu-Fearon recording a reading from St John’s Gospel remotely to support the Abbey in celebrating the bonds of affection which connect Anglicans across the world.

This week’s episode is led by The Reverend Canon Anthony Ball, Canon Steward with an address by the Dean of Westminster, The Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle. Ralph Vaughan Willliams’ anthem O clap your hands sung by the Abbey Choir and conducted by James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers, is supplied by the Choir’s record label, Hyperion Records.

The Anglican Communion is one of the world’s largest Christian communions. It has tens of millions of members in more than 165 countries around the globe. In collaboration with the Anglican Communion Office, Westminster Abbey has hosted five international ecclesiology seminars this year in advance of the now-postponed 2020 Lambeth Conference. A volume of papers from these seminars, edited by the Abbey’s Canon Theologian The Reverend Canon Dr James Hawkey, will be published by SPCK in December this year.
