John Milton, poet and writer, died in 1674 but his memorial in Poet's Corner was not erected until 1737. He has a memorial window in St Margaret's church.

Shakespeare was buried at Stratford upon Avon in 1616 and it was not until 1741 that a statue to him was erected in Poets' Corner.
