Prince Harry Attends ANZAC Day Service

HRH Prince Henry of Wales attended a Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving to mark ANZAC Day at Westminster Abbey at Noon on Monday 25th April 2016. The National Anthem was sung.

Anointing Screen on display at the Abbey

The central anointing screen used at the most sacred moment of the Coronation, the anointing of His Majesty The King, will be on display in Westminster Abbey in St George’s Chapel from Monday 8th May – Saturday 13th May, when the Coronation Theatre will also be on view.

A moveable mirror in the Lady Chapel was given in memory of Frederick Waring of the restoration firm of Rattee and Kett of Cambridge.

Stringer Lawrence
Soldier
In the north aisle of the nave is a memorial to Major General Stringer Lawrence. The marble monument is signed by sculptor W. Tyler.

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh attended an Observance for Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey on 11th March 2013.

Henry V and Catherine de Valois
Henry’s tomb is below his elaborate chantry chapel in Westminster Abbey. His funeral armour and the effigy of his wife, Catherine de Valois, can be seen in the Abbey Galleries.

Queen Anne
Anne was crowned in the Abbey on 23rd April 1702. She is buried with her husband Prince George of Denmark in a vault in the Lady Chapel.

Queen Alexandra was born in 1844, the daughter of King Christian IX of Denmark. With her husband Edward VII, she was crowned in 1902.

Walter Porter, singer and musician, was Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey from 1639-44. He was buried in St Margaret's on 30th November 1659.

In 1505, the Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII, and founder of the Tudor dynasty, re-founded the college of God's House (first established in 1437 for the training of grammar school masters) naming it Christ's College.
