William Bent and family

On the wall of the north aisle of St Margaret's Church Westminster is a marble tablet in an arched frame. Most of the top section of the inscription is now illegible but a copy of it was made in the 19th century. It reads:

In the churchyard near this spot was deposited the remnants of Jane Bent died 16th Nov. 1810 aged 7 years. Henry Bent died 29th Nov. 1810 aged 5 years. William Bent Esqr. died 10th July 1836 in his 70th year at Boulogne Sur Mer. Joseph Bent died 9th April 1838 aged 37 years and Phillipa his widow died 30th Sept. 1842. Jane Mary Bent, relict [widow] of Will. Bent Esqr. died 12th March 1848 in her 73rd year. And at Woking Cemetery William Bent Esqr. of this parish and of Walton on Thames died 9th June 1859 aged 62 years. And Mary Bent his widow died 6th October 1863 aged 78 years

Nothing further is known of the family. As burials at St Margaret's ceased in 1853 the members of the family who died after this date had to be buried at an out of town cemetery.
