Stephen Rigaud's children

Two young children of the Revd. Stephen Jordan Rigaud (1816-59), son of Stephen Rigaud (1774-1839) astronomer, were buried in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey.

He was an usher (assistant master) at Westminster School and his wife was Lucy, daughter of Benjamin Vulliamy. Mary Jane, aged four years, was buried on 23rd March 1848 and Jane, aged one year, was buried on 17th January 1849. They have no inscribed stones. The family lived at 1 Little Dean's Yard, within the Abbey precincts, from 1846-50, and, although the house was rebuilt, it is still known as Rigaud's by the School. He became Head Master of Queen Elizabeth School, Ipswich and was author of several books. From 1858 he was Bishop of Antigua and he died there of yellow fever on 17th May 1859.
