Scipio Le Squire

Scipio Le Squire (or Squyer), antiquary and collector, was buried in the east cloister of Westminster Abbey on 29th September 1659, near his friend Arthur Agard (and near the Chapter House where Public Records were deposited at this period). He has no monument and no inscribed gravestone was recorded.

He was born in Devon, a son of Edmund and Martha (Slader) and became a student at New Inn in London and later went on to Gray's Inn. From 1620 he was a deputy Chamberlain of the Exchequer and at his death was Senior Chamberlain of the Court of Receipt in the Exchequer and Keeper of their records.

By his first wife Frances Brawne he had several children including son Scipio, and married secondly Elizabeth (surname not known), who survived him.
