John Broxholme

John Broxholme, from the notable family of Broxholme Place in Lincolnshire, was buried on 5th March 1647 in Westminster Abbey. The register says he was buried "on the north side of the steps going up to the Communion table near the pillar at the head of Aveline's tomb" so this was roughly where the Abbey pulpit stands today near the steps to the High Altar. He never seems to have had an inscribed gravestone. He was born in 1583 and baptised in Lincoln eldest son of William Broxholme and his second wife Anne (Marbury). John was a Member of Parliament in the Long Parliament and supported Cromwell.  His wife was Troth, daughter of Richard Gedney and widow of Sir Henry Fowkes (she was buried at Barrow in Lincolnshire in 1657). Their son William (c.1626-84) was M.P. for Great Grimsby and died unmarried.
