Henry Brooker

Henry Brooker married Henrietta Belcher in Westminster Abbey on 4th March 1753. He was probably the son of Henry and Hannah (Tanner) who had been married in St Margaret's Westminster on 2nd February 1706. From 1758 he had been a clerk in the Augmentation Office and was later Keeper of the Records there. In 1764 he was appointed Library keeper and keeper of the records at Westminster Abbey and became Auditor in 1770 and lastly Receiver General in 1785. He was buried on 6th June 1787 in the east cloister, aged 65. Henrietta was buried with him on 23rd January 1802 aged 79. No markers remain.

Their daughter Mary was baptised in St Margaret's on 7th December 1755. She married Robert Byles, surgeon, from whom she separated. She then used the surname of Brown probably for the purpose of concealment from her husband. She was buried in the east cloister near the Library door on 19th July 1815.  Henry's daughter Harriet was baptised in the Abbey on 2nd January 1761 and was buried there in 1780. Another daughter Elizabeth married Henry Abbott of Blackheath and proved Mary's will.
