Garret and Norton Fitzgerald

High on the north wall of St Margaret's Church Westminster is an oval tablet to Garret Fitzgerald and his family. The inscription reads:

Near this place lyeth the bodys of Garret Fitzgerald Gent. who dyed the 14th of Sept. 1718 in the 52nd year of his age; and Anne his wife who dyed June 15th 1740 aged about 70. Also four of their children Edmund dyed 25th May 1735 aged 37, Gerald dyed 3rd Nov. 1733 aged 31, Mary and Anne both died young. Also Anne wife of the foresaid Edmund and daughter of Michael Brandreth of Shenston in the county of Stafford Esqr.[Esquire] who dyed the 2nd day of May 1727 in the 33nd year of her age. So soon passeth it away and we are gone.

A plain rectangular tablet to Norton Fitzgerald is now invisible behind the organ. It is not known if there was a relationship with Garret. This inscription reads:

Near this place lies Norton Fitzgerald of the Middle Temple Esq. who died ye 25th day of June 1721. He was the second son of William Fitzgerald Esq. of Moy Castle in the county of Clare and Kingdom of Ireland and of St Margaret's Westminster.
