Sir William Throckmorton

Sir William Throckmorton (or Throgmorton as it appears in the burial register) was buried in the mid chancel in St Margaret's church Westminster on 1st July 1682. The register records that he was killed in a duel. He has no marker or memorial.

He was born in 1658, son of Nicholas and his wife Alice (Gough). At Westminster School he was Captain of the King's Scholars and went on to Oxford university. He was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1681. He succeeded his cousin Sir Baynham Throckmorton as 4th Baronet of Tortworth. The Throckmorton's had been lords of the manor of Fladbury near Evesham in Worcestershire since 1130. He died unmarried and as his only brother had died in 1667 the baronetcy became extinct at his death.
