John Strode

Colonel John Strode (or Stroud), governor of Dover Castle in Kent and a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber to Charles II, was buried in Westminster Abbey on 30th March 1686 but the exact location is not given in the burial register. He has no monument or gravestone. He was a son (one of fourteen children) of Sir George Strode (1583-1663) and his wife Rebecca (Crisp). One of his brothers was Sir Nicholas Strode and a sister Anne married Ellis Crisp and secondly Nicholas Reynardson. 

John was resident in the parish of St Margaret Westminster and his wife was Mary and he left her his estate in England and Ireland. Their daughter Mary was baptised at St Paul's church, Covent Garden in 1671 but died not long after and daughter Civillia was baptised at St Margaret's in 1680.
