Sir Frank Lockwood

In the south aisle of St Margaret's church Westminster is a memorial brass to Sir Frank Lockwood, lawyer and politician. This was erected in 1899 and has a decorative leaf border with the inscription: 

To the memory of Sir Frank Lockwood M.P. sometime Solicitor General. Born 1846. Died 1897. whose qualities of head and heart adorned by an unfailing yet unwounding humour endeared him to all parties in the House of Commons. This tablet is erected by his sorrowing friends in both Houses of Parliament

He was a son of Charles Lockwood of Doncaster and was educated in Manchester and at Cambridge university. His wife was Julia Schwabe and they had two daughters. In 1894 he was knighted. He was Member of Parliament for York and took a central part in the Oscar Wilde prosecution. An island off Mull in Scotland bears his name. He died in Chelsea and a memorial window and tablet were erected for him in York Minster.
