Harriett Benthall

On the wall of the north cloister of Westminster Abbey is a small white marble tablet to Harriett Benthall. Her husband John attended Westminster School as a King's Scholar in 1820 and came back to teach there from 1829-1846. His residence was in Little Dean's Yard in the Abbey precincts. His brothers William, Francis, Arthur and Thornton were also boys at the School. He married Harriett at Berry Pomeroy in Devon in 1835, daughter of Joseph Everett of Salisbury. John was Vicar of Willen in Buckinghamshire from 1852 and his second wife was Frances Levi. Son John Everett Bentall also attended the School, with his brother William Henry. The inscription reads:

In memory of Harriett, wife of the Reverend John Benthall (one of the Ushers of Westminster School) Died 7th August 1838 aged 32 years. And of John Everett Benthall, their son, died 19th of November 1846 aged 10 years.
