Dementia Friendly Visit: England's Oldest Garden

Join us for a bespoke dementia friendly tour in the Westminster Abbey’s gardens, followed by refreshments and a gentle gardening workshop.

Explore the beautiful cloisters and College Garden together on a slow-paced guided tour. Hear about the garden's origins and the importance of nature within everyday monastic life whilst taking in the tranquil surroundings of the Abbey’s outdoor estate.  

After the tour, join us for drinks, biscuits and conversation in our Undercroft and you'll have the opportunity to plant a small herb to take home with you.  

This event is for people living with dementia and their companions to enjoy together. Please let us know in advance if you have any accessibility requirements so we can adapt the tour route.    

Ticketing Information

Booking is essential and there is a maximum of 16 people, including carers and companions. Please let us know if you are no longer able to attend so that we can offer your place to someone else. 

This event is designed to be suitable for people living with dementia and their companions. 

Timings 

11:30am: Welcome at the Abbey’s West Doors and introductions 
11:35am - 12:15pm: Tour of the cloisters and College Garden
12:30pm - 1:30pm: Refreshments and dementia friendly gardening workshop 

Meeting Location

This event will meet by the Cloister Entrance to Westminster Abbey in Dean's Yard. 

Access and Security

​​Please have your ticket ready to show our staff (either printed or on your mobile phone). 

​​On your arrival, your bag will be searched and we ask you not to bring any large items with you (for example suitcases, large backpacks or folding bicycles) as these will not be allowed inside and we are unable to store them for you.
