Discover the stories behind 39 coronations at Westminster Abbey, from William the Conqueror in 1066 to Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla in 2023.
Step into a world of pageantry, power and tradition on our 75-minute tour. Find out how a coronation is meticulously planned, how the sacred regalia symbolises royal authority, and hear the remarkable stories of nearly a thousand years of coronations, in the very place where history happens. This tour will include:
- The Coronation Chair, used by monarchs in the service for 700 years
- The Nave, where the Coronation procession makes its grand entrance
- The Quire, where the splendour of the celebration is brought to life with music
- The High Altar, where the service takes place within the Coronation Theatre
- Poets’ Corner, where illustrious guests witness the ceremony in a spectacular setting
- The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries, where you can see illustrated manuscripts and replica regalia that have shaped preparations throughout history

How to book
Choose your preferred date from the list above.
Select 'Book Abbey and Coronation tour tickets' and enter your chosen date and time (the time slot must be before or the same time as the tour time slot) and select your general admission tickets.
You will then be prompted to book tickets for the Coronation tour, if available.
If you are interested in the 1:00pm tour
If you would like to look around the rest of the Abbey during your visit, then we recommend you do so before you take part in the tour. This is to allow you enough time to see as much as possible.
Age suitability
This event is for adults and young people over the age of 10.
Access and security
Please have your ticket ready to show our staff (either printed or on your mobile phone).
On your arrival, your bag will be searched and we ask you not to bring any large items with you (for example suitcases, large backpacks or folding bicycles) as these will not be allowed inside and we are unable to store them for you.
The Abbey has uneven floors and parts of the tour may only be accessible up a flight of steps, so we recommend you wear sensible footwear. Some areas on this tour are not wheelchair accessible, please consider this carefully when booking.
