Roger and Agneta Cooper

In the east cloister of Westminster Abbey, below the tablet to Elizabeth Abrahall, is the grave of Roger and Agneta Cooper. The inscription has now worn away but it read:

Roger Cooper Esq. one of the Gentleman Ushers of the Privy Chamber to Her Majesty Queen Anne. He died in the 40th year of his age April 19, 1703

He had been a Gentleman Waiter to Queen Anne when she was princess. His father was John Cooper of Westminster and he attended Westminster School as a Bishop's boy in 1676 and a King's Scholar from 1679. He was educated at Oxford. Agneta was buried on 9th July 1718. They married at St James's Westminster and her maiden name was Jones. She was woman of the bedchamber to the Queen and formerly her Dresser and Mother of the Maids. Their son George was baptized at St Margaret's Westminster on 31st January 1689 and son John on 29th January 1691. John proved his mother's will.

Jane Cooper buried on 6th January 1701, and Dorothy buried on 30th April 1708, seamstress and laundress to the family of Prince George of Denmark from 1692, were possibly relations as they were buried in the same location.
