  Her Majesty The Queen visited Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 14th May to unveil the foundation stone for The King Charles III Sacristy - a new building which is being constructed to transform the welcome the Abbey offers the millions of people who come from around the world to enjoy one of the world’s great churches.

  A memorial stone to Sir Ernest Shackleton, one of the most celebrated Antarctic Explorers of the twentieth century, was dedicated at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 15th February 2024.

  When Charles Dickens died at his home in Kent on 9th June 1870, it was presumed that he would be buried in Rochester Cathedral or in one of the nearby parish churches at Cobham or Shorne. This, after all, was what the author of some of the greatest novels in the English language had wanted.

  A Service to dedicate a Memorial to Octavia Hill (1838-1912) and to give thanks for the work of the National Trust was held at Westminster Abbey today at 12 noon in the centenary year of the death of Octavia Hill, the leading social reformer and co-founder of the National Trust.
