Service of Remembrance to Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of El Alamein

An Evensong to commemorate the 70th anniversary of El Alamein was held at Westminster Abbey today at 3.00pm.

Unknown Warrior
At the west end of the Nave is the grave of the Unknown Warrior, whose body was brought from France to be buried in 1920. No one knows the identity of the person buried here. It is the only gravestone in the Abbey that we ask people not to walk on out of respect.

Edward I and Eleanor of Castile
Edward and Eleanor's coronation took place on 19th August 1274. Both are buried in St Edward's chapel in Westminster Abbey and Eleanor has a fine effigy.
