• John Milton

  Writer and Poet

  John Milton, poet and writer, died in 1674 but his memorial in Poet's Corner was not erected until 1737. He has a memorial window in St Margaret's church.

• Stephen Dykes Bower

  Architect

  The ashes of Stephen Dykes Bower, Surveyor of the Fabric of Westminster Abbey from 1951-1973, are buried in the Islip chapel.

• Diana, Princess of Wales

  Diana, Princess of Wales was tragically killed in a car accident on 31st August 1997. Her funeral was held in Westminster Abbey on 6th September.

• William II

  Following the custom set by his father William was crowned in Westminster Abbey on 26th September 1087. The ceremony was according to the Anglo-Saxon liturgy.

• Edward II

  The coronation of Edward and Isabella took place in February 1308. In his coronation oath, he swore to uphold the laws of Edward the Confessor.

• Joan, daughter of Edward III

  A small bronze statuette (weeper) of Joan, daughter of Edward III, can be seen on the tomb of her father in Westminster Abbey.

  Dr Theodore Price, prebendary and Sub-Dean of Westminster, died on 15th December 1631 (apparently as a Roman Catholic) and was buried in the south transept.

  Priest/Minister

  The Reverend Benjamin Ibbot was buried in the east aisle of the south transept on 13th April 1725 but he has no monument.

• David, 1st Earl Beatty

  Sailor

  David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty (1871-1936), naval officer, has a stall plate as a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath.

  Composer, Musician and Priest/Minister

  The Reverend Luke Flintoft, composer, was a Minor Canon of Westminster Abbey from 1720-1727 and was buried in the south cloister on 6th November 1727.

• Lancelot Andrewes

  Dean and Priest/Minister

  Lancelot Andrewes was Dean of Westminster 1601-1605 but he has no memorial in the Abbey. He has a monument in Southwark cathedral where he’s buried.

• William Heywood

  Priest/Minister

  William Heywood (Haywood) was buried at the foot of the pulpit in Westminster Abbey on 17th July 1663 but he has no gravestone or monument.

• Anthony Carey, Lord Falkland

  Politician

  Anthony Carey (Cary), 5th Viscount Falkland was buried in Westminster Abbey but the location is not known and he has no monument or marker.

• Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln

  Soldier

  On the wall of the south choir aisle of Westminster Abbey is the carved shield of Henry de Lacy, 5th Earl of Lincoln (1249-1311).

• Richard Perrinchief

  Priest/Minister

  Dr Richard Perrinchief was buried on 2nd September 1673 in Westminster Abbey "within the south monument door", presumably the south ambulatory.

• William Loe

  Priest/Minister

  The Reverend Dr William Loe, alias Leo, was buried in Poets' Corner Westminster Abbey, near the entrance to St Faith's chapel on 21st September 1645.

• Walter Jones

  Priest/Minister

  Dr Walter Jones, Sub Dean of Westminster, was buried near his seat in the Quire on 15th July 1672 but he had no marker.

• Anne Hutten & Alice Corbett

  Anne Hutten or Hutton was buried in Westminster Abbey in May or June 1644. Her daughter Alice who died of smallpox was buried in 1628.
