  On 24th April 1963 Princess Alexandra of Kent was married to the Hon. Angus Ogilvy, second son of the Earl of Airlie, in Westminster Abbey.

  Zouch Allen, surgeon of the parish of St Martin in the Fields, was buried in the north ambulatory on 28th December 1620.

• Westminster Abbey discovers link with Charlemagne

  A medieval silk seal bag dating from the reign of King Henry III has gone on public display for the first time in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries at Westminster Abbey following the discovery by scholars that it is a perfect match to the silk cloth used to wrap the remains of the Emperor Charlemagne who is buried in Aachen Cathedral in Germany.

  Stephen was crowned in the Abbey in December 1135. He promised to all Englishmen "all the liberties and good laws" which they had enjoyed under his predecessors.

  Writer and Novelist

  Jane Austen is buried in Winchester Cathedral but a small tablet was unveiled to her memory in Poets' Corner, Westminster Abbey, on 17th December 1967.

  Writer and Priest/Minister

  The Reverend Dr George Hickes, writer and linguist, was buried in St Margaret's church on 18th December 1715 but he has no monument or gravestone.

  In St Margaret's is a small 15th century carved figure of St Margaret of Antioch and the dragon given in memory of John Rankin Rathbone.

  Alexander Baker, Master of the Barber-Surgeons' Company, was buried in the north ambulatory of Westminster Abbey on 2nd October 1635. But he has no monument.

  Admiral Sir Charles Saunders was buried in the lower Islip chapel, Westminster Abbey. He served with General Wolfe in Canada.

  In the west cloister of Westminster Abbey is the grave of John Willis, Abbey carpenter, his son Edward and niece Ann.

  Walter de Wenlok was Abbot of Westminster from 31st December 1283 until his death on 25th December 1307. He was buried beneath the Cosmati pavement.

  Humphrey Mackworth, a colonel in Cromwell's Parliamentary army, was buried in a vault in Henry VII's chapel in Westminster Abbey but later exhumed.
